In Valestadt, sin manifests physically as the Bloodrot, a creeping disease that leads to madness and death. The wealthy evade this fate by hiring the poor to commit sins on their behalf, transferring the physical and moral consequences.
Talin Keller, employed by the city's religious leader known as the Prophet, carries out these sins, accumulating the Bloodrot as a result.
With her condition worsening, Talin accepts a perilous assignment to eliminate the Warden, a mysterious figure feared throughout the city.
As she infiltrates his world, she becomes entangled in a complex web of attraction and conspiracy, forcing her to confront the true cost of survival in a society where sin is currency.
