How it starts

Ex-assassin Syn Malleore despises monarchs, especially after the last king poisoned her sister, leaving her to suffer a slow death. With the monarchy now overthrown, Syn seizes the opportunity to return to the Fey realm in search of a magical cure. However, the Fey nobility are conspiring to reinstate the crown through deadly trials where aristocrats fight to the death to claim the throne. Disguised as a baroness, Syn infiltrates these trials with a dual mission: steal a sacred relic to save her sister and prevent the rise of another tyrant. Complicating her plans is Rion du Lac, a dangerously seductive warlord who uncovers her deception and coerces her into posing as his lover to gain the crowd's favor. In a court where power and control dictate survival, one misstep could lead to execution. The greatest threat, however, may not be the trials themselves, but the growing attraction between Syn and Rion, as each lie she tells draws them closer together.
