How it starts

Rin, a war orphan from the impoverished Rooster Province, defies all odds to secure a place at Sinegard, the most prestigious military academy in the Nikara Empire. Her dark skin and humble origins make her a target among her elite peers, but Rin discovers she possesses a rare and dangerous talent for shamanism. Guided by a seemingly mad teacher and aided by psychoactive substances, she learns to harness her powers, awakening gods long thought dead. As tensions rise with the militarily advanced Federation of Mugen, Rin's abilities may be the key to saving her people. However, the cost of wielding such power could be her humanity itself. ⚠️ Note: This book contains graphic depictions of war, violence, and drug use. First in the Poppy War trilogy, for fans of grimdark fantasy.
