How it starts

For mortals in Caelia, every day could be their last. Especially in Ashenholt. Nineteen-year-old Naci Corren spent her life surviving a world that never wanted her. Born mortal in a realm ruled by magic, she’s known nothing but cruelty at the hands of her father and the fae. But in a brutal magical attack that puts the life of her youngest sister at stake, Naci makes a desperate decision: take her sister and run. Find her mother, who she only remembers in her dreams. Freedom is sweet until it leads them right into the fae king’s capital. Captivated by a charming, flirty stranger with secrets of his own, Naci finds herself drawn into his world—a tangled mess of deceit, betrayal, and a growing threat of complete mortal annihilation. But whispers of a rebellion spark one devastating night that changes everything, awakening something dark and vengeful inside her—something in her heart that even the vicious, broody warrior from afar cannot tame. Because the gods prophesied something ominous the day she was born. Not a prophecy promising salvation, only a choice: Save the world that took everything from her…or burn it to ash. For fans of Throne of Glass and Red Queen, Death of a Mortal is the first book in a four-book series.
