How it starts

Mare Barrow is a Red, living in a world divided by blood. Reds are commoners, ruled by the elite Silvers who possess god-like superpowers. Mare scrapes by as a thief in her poor village, but a twist of fate lands her in front of the Silver court. There, she discovers she has a power of her own, one that should be impossible for a Red. To cover up this anomaly, the king forces Mare to play the role of a lost Silver princess and betroths her to one of his sons. As Mare navigates the dangerous politics of the Silver world, she becomes involved with the Scarlet Guard, a Red rebellion. Torn between her growing feelings and her desire for justice, Mare must tread carefully, as one wrong move could lead to her death. In this world of betrayal and intrigue, Mare learns that the only certainty is that nothing is as it seems. For fans of 'Graceling' meets 'The Selection'.
